Wortley Dragons: 40 Meltham All Blacks; 0
Meltham played their third fixture on the trot away from home at recently promoted Wortley Dragons. Meltham started the match positively from their kick off. However, Wortley crossed to score the first try of the match. Good tackling from Jason Carter prevented a couple of breaks leading to scores. Matthew Carter and Matthew Hird made well timed interceptions that opened up the game but Wortley’s defence proved very effective.
Gary Pedelty came closest to scoring for Meltham during the first half but was tackling very close to Wortley’s line.
The half time score at the end of a physical 40 minutes of rugby was 22 : 0 to Wortley.
The second half continued in the same manner, Meltham’s forwards working well driving the ball and the backs getting involved at every opportunity.
During this half Gary Pedelty suffered an injury to a knee leading him to be carried from the field. Hopefully he will recover from this quickly.
The final score was 40 : 0 to Wortley Dragons in a match that was effected by a litany of ‘interesting’ decisions that influenced the flow of the game.
The man of the match was shared this week between Gary Pedelty and Sean Robinson.
Wortley Dragons voted our best best back as Rob Lewis and our best forward: Gary Pedelty.
