Whitehall Warriors 26 Meltham All Blacks 18
Meltham All Blacks started their 2006/2007 season with a hard fought match at recently promoted Whitehall Warriors. Conditions were not ideal with a gusty wind and driving rain, making things difficult for both sets of players.
The first half saw Whitehall open up the scoring. However, Richard Ellis scored his first try of the season with a powerful drive from short distance. A series of penalties allowed Whitehall to apply a lot of pressure close to Meltham’s line scoring a try and a penalty just before half time, the half time score was 14:6.
The second half saw Richard Ellis score his second try and Gary Pedelty his first of the season, both of which were converted, drawing the score to 20:18 with five minutes left on the clock. A handling error turned the ball over to Whitehall who then responded with a 40m try from their full back. The conversion was to be the final score of the match.
Richard Barber was Meltham’s player man of the match and Alan Williams was voted man of the match by Whitehall. Thanks go to the Swan (Meltham) for sponsoring the game.
