Meltham All Blacks -10 Underbank Rangers -20
For the second week in a row the All Blacks played in a local derby, this time against Underbank Rangers.
Underbank opened the scoring within the opening minutes from kick off,
The tone of the game was set in the opening minutes with both teams’ forwards contesting for supremacy in the middle of the pitch. An early yellow card, for a high
tackle, saw the All Blacks reduced to 12 men. The visitors managed to convert this advantage into points. The All Blacks responded to this in a very positive manner
and played some aggressive, attacking rugby. This led to a try on the right wing from Simon Gardener, the off load from Rob Lewis on this occasion perfectly timed.
The second half set off at the same pace as the first; neither team willing to allow the other to gain any advantage. Both teams had a player each yellow carded within
a minute of each other for minor infringements. Richard Ellis drove in Meltham's next score, a try that was not converted. The pressure of the match bubbled over regularly from here on in.
Overall, a tough, hard fought encounter that Meltham can take some heart from. Underbank voted Jason Carter as best back and Alan Williams best forward.
Meltham's player of the match was Alan Williams
