Meltham All Blacks Under 8’s –Home to Moldgreen
Meltham 52- Moldgreen 10
Meltham All Blacks came out on to the field to consolidate their previous performances and once again did not disappoint their supporters. Darren Walker was leading from the front and was soon over the whitewash, showing a clean pair of heels, 6-0 to the home side. Jordan Williams scooted through the Moldgreen defence to make it 12-0 shortly after. Moldgreen responded with a converted try to keep them in the game 12-6.
Christian Pestell in his first match since December, after a short spell 'down under' showed he had not lost his form and pushed his way through the Moldgreen defence. Christian scored again before the half, converted by Jack Clifford (22-6). Lewis Bull (most improved) showed he's not be messed with, putting in some excellent tackling. Tom Hindle (player of the week) who is like a good wine (gets better week by week) and Carl Sykes (mostimproved) upping his game.
The pitch was turning muddy under the winter sun, but the teams played on, compared to the previous weeks atrocious winter conditions, with the sun on their backs, the all blacks got into gear, with two further tries from Jordan Williams, Jack Clifford (2), Darren Walker (2) Christian Pestell (3) and George Sykes-Kenworthy (1). Molly Doyle, Ryan White and Jordan James helped the team by tackling like demons. Moldgreen gave their supporters something to cheer when they scored to make it (44-10). Man of the match today went to Darren Walker who was outstanding both in attack and defence, and he just clinched the top tackler award.
Meltham are a quality side throughout. They work well as a unit and are sturdy in defence. Hopefully Meltham will be back to full strength next week with the return of Stephen Tooley and Alex Zatorski.
Meltham All Blacks Under 9’s – Home to Wibsey
Meltham 18 – Wibsey 14
Meltham got stuck in road works on their way to the game, but wasted no time getting stuck into Siddal. Daniel King going over on the first set of six.
Siddal hit back with a converted try, which was quickly cancelled out by Daniel going over for his second try to give Meltham back the lead which they never looked like losing. Ryan Hirst, Cory McDonagh and Oliver Szlachcic improved greatly on previous weeks tackling to keep Siddal at bay.
Then not stopping for anything in his way Michael Tooley scored in the corner. Daniel King completed a first half hat trick with some powerful drives into the heart of Siddals defence. Although Siddal kept in the game at this point Meltham’s defence was starting to take its toll and Jack Evans try was just reward. Debutante Joe Beaumont gelled straight away with his new team mates and was soon leading the defensive line
Jacob Glover got a well-deserved try for some ferocious defence, soon followed by Jack with his second putting Meltham in total control. Cory McDonagh was starting to show some of his early season form and got a well deserved try.
Then the moment all players and parents wait for, in a strong and powerful run to the line Christopher Brearley scored the first try of his rugby league career to earn him Man of the Match.
With only seconds left on the clock Siddal tried one last attack into Meltham territory only to be met by one of Jacob glovers big hits, which knocked the ball free for top tackler Daniel King to pick up the loose ball and race in the corner for a great team win.
Try scorers Jacob Glover, Daniel King (4), Michael Tooley, Cory McDonagh, Jack Evans (2) and Chris Brearley
Goals were scored by Evans, King (2), Glover, Szlachcic, McDonagh and Hirst
Meltham All Blacks Under 10’s – Home to Siddal
Meltham 14 - Siddal 18
The All Blacks entertained Siddal, a team they have played on three previous occasions so far this season with all of them being very close encounters, and this game was to prove to be no different.
Meltham got off to a flying start, with Luke Pogson scoring the first of his brace of trys within two minutes of the kick off,
Excellent runs by Calum Linton and Man of the Match Frazer Morris, were a constant threat to the Siddal defence, and set up good field positions which allowed Jack Parkin to capitalise and score Meltham’s second try.
The final ten minutes of the first half became a stalemate with both team’s defences being dominant.
Meltham’s half time advantage of 10 points to 4 was reduced at the start of the second half when within minutes of the kick off Siddal broke the Meltham defence and scored in the corner.
Meltham however quickly replied, when Luke Pogson crossed the line following yet another impressive run by Frazer Morris which unlocked the Siddal defence.
Loss of concentration by Meltham in the last 5 minutes of the match allowed Siddal to score two trys to gain the lead for the first time in the game to which Meltham had no reply.
Joe Townsend, who returned to the team following a lay off due to injury was awarded Player of the Week for amongst other things his bravery in the tackles
Trys:- Luke Pogson (2), Jack Parkin
Goals:- Greg Thompson.

Meltham All Blacks Under 12’s – Away at Wibsey
Wibsey 10 - Meltham 16
Meltham once again showed that they are a force to be reckoned with.
With the new signings starting to settle into the team Meltham are beginning to look like a very effective unit. West riding cup finalists Wibsey had no answer to the well organised and committed All Blacks. Meltham started the game at a blistering pace scoring a superb try after 5 minutes when the ball was passed along the line for Daniel Hirst to score in the corner. Toby King was soon to follow throwing an outragess dummy which left him a big gap to stroll through. Next came new boy Patrick Diavewa, who showed his immense strength and speed to burst through the defensive line and race 50 meters to the line. Half time 12 to 0.
The second half was a much closer affair with both defences gaining the upper hand. Wibsey managed to break their duck crashing over from acting half back with 10 minutes left on the clock. Any thoughts of a come back were soon dashed by a second try from Patrick Diavewa when he took the ball from 40 meters out and once again proved unstoppable. Wibsey managed a consolation try with the last touch of the game. Top Tackler was Toby King and Man of the match was Patrick Diavewa.
