Meltham All Blacks Under 8’s – Away at Siddal

Siddal 6- Meltham 22

Meltham Under 8's are getting better week by week and this Sunday saw a real battle of determination and skill.  A confident side after two good wins last week against Newsome and Wibsey showed that they could mix it with the best on offer. An excellent tackling side, Siddal were giving nothing away.

Carl Sykes, Alex Zatorski and Darran Walker working extra hard in defence, with George Sykes-Kenworthy making at least four try saving tackles taking the Siddal players into touch with skills beyond his years.

It wasn't until the second half all the hard work paid off with a converted try from the ever faithful Jordan Williams. Meltham then fell asleep and let Siddal in with an easy try (6-6).  Meltham stepped up a gear with a battling run from Christian Pestell, which seemed to lift the side (10-6).

With strong teamwork, Molly Doyle and Tom Hindle drove the ball forward, backed up by Jordan James, Ryan white and Lewis Bull.  Jordan Williams skirting the touchline for his second, followed by Christian, who is keeping the top try scorer trophy hot in his sights.  Finished off with a conversion from Darren Walker (22-6).  A well deserved victory, keep up the hard work

Scoring eleven tries by six different players showed how good the teams support play is becoming, with 1 try going through eight pair of hands.

This was the first try of his rugby league career and earned him the most improved player award.

Man of the match Jacob Glover had an awesome game coming third in the tackle count, scoring four tries and 2 conversions. His defence was very impressive putting some crunching tackles on the big Wyke players and scoring at regular intervals by backing up his team mates or going route one straight down the middle.

Meltham All Blacks Under 10’s – Away at Siddal

Siddal 18 - Meltham 30

The Under 10’s travelled to Siddal looking to avenge their only defeat of the season so far and came away with a satisfying victory in what proved to be a very physical game.

Despite Meltham taking an early lead with a try and conversion by Luke Pogson in the first minute, Siddal started the brightest with some stout defence and nippy ball play which at times had Meltham scrambling in defence, and it was no surprise that the home team levelled the score after ten minutes.

However as the first half progressed Meltham began to dominate the play and ended the half with an eight-point lead

The second half commenced as the first had finished with Meltham in the ascendance. Excellent running especially from Frazer Morris and Elliot Currid ensured Siddal’s defence was constantly stretched, whilst defensively Meltham worked as a unit thwarting the Siddal attack, allowing Meltham to score a further three unanswered tries.

Lapses in the Meltham defence allowed Siddal to score two late converted tries, punctuated by a further try from Meltham

Man of the Match was awarded to Calum Linton with Jack Parkin’s tackling and ball handling earning him the player of the week award

Tries were scored by Luke Pogson (3), Calum Linton (2,) Elliot Currid and.  Greg Thompson

Conversions were scored by Luke Pogson.
