Meltham All Blacks Under 8’s -Away at Halifax

Halifax Vandals 22 - Meltham 32

Meltham All Blacks managed to substain their winning sequence in very wet and windy conditions. A very impresive drive by Darren Walker, Alex 'the Tank' Zatorski and George Sykes-Kenworthy helped to open the game. First try came from Jordan Williams but the opposition came straight back to equal it to 6 all. Jordan Williams then scored again, followed by Jack Clifford leaving a half time score of 16-6. The second half saw the Vandals come back to make it 10-16, Tom Hindle then got his first try of the season, and Jordan Williams scored the next to complete his hat trick. Molly Doyle almost made it to the line to get her first ever try but was stopped a yard short. Lewis Bull and Jordan James showed some excellent tackling. Ryan White showed good signs of improvement. The score ended up with another win for the All Blacks. Top tackler and Man of the Match went to Jordan Williams, Most improved player to Lewis Bull and Tom Hindle picked up player of the week. Great game from all.

Meltham All Blacks Under 9’s – Home to Wibsey

Meltham 18 – Wibsey 14

In a very close contest, Meltham came from behind twice to earn a well deserved victory against tough opponents Wibsey.

It took eight minutes before the first score of the match, showing how well both teams were defending, Meltham’s Jack Evans being the top tackler stopping any body that came near.

Man of the Match Jacob Glover scored his first try by supporting Oliver Szlachcic to go in at the corner, but his second was raw power as he carried several Wibsey players over the line with him.

Michael Tooley had his best defensive game so far this season and pulled of some try saving tackles. Daniel king worked hard in attack to drive out of his own half on numerous occasions and scored a good try by skirting the touchline for 30 yards to beat the defence and go over in the corner to give Meltham the win.

Try scorers Jacob Glover (2), Daniel King and Oliver Szlachcic

Goals were scored by Glover, King and Szlachcic

Meltham All Blacks Under 10’s – Away at Newsome

Newsome 50 – Meltham 4

A “bad day at the office” is the only way that this game can be described for the All Blacks. On a cold and blustery day Meltham came up against an extremely well drilled and disciplined Newsome team, which made Meltham look at best a very ordinary side.

Meltham’s normal solid defence was woefully below par and Newsome capitalised on this time and time again, scoring trys at will

In attack Meltham made a number of unforced errors, giving the advantage back to the opponents, and putting further pressure on a dispirited defence.

Meltham did however score a late consolation try through Luke Pogson.

Meltham learnt a very valuable lesson on this day in concentration and focus.

Meltham All Blacks Under 12’s – Home to Huddersfield Sharks

Meltham 24   Huddersfield Sharks 0

Meltham booked their place in the semi final of the supplementary cup by dominating the toothless Sharks in this one sided encounter. The pace power and skill of the Meltham side proved too much for there local rivals as they struggled to compete with the well drilled All Blacks.

After winning the toss Meltham elected to start the game playing up the slope and against the strong wind, however if the Sharks were expecting Meltham to sit back and try and soak up the pressure they were in for a rude awakening. The All Blacks defence was in a mean and aggressive mood constantly driving the Sharks back up the field, and forcing them to spill the ball on several occasions. In attack the conditions seemed to have little affect as Meltham got down to business. It wasn't long before the first points were registered. Conner Robertson was on the receiving end of some great handling to take the ball from 40 metres out and race away to the line. The next try was a superb individual effort from Patrick Diavewa who took the ball from 50 metres out and barged passed several defenders on his way to the line. Daniel Hirst was the next to score jinking his way passed a host of defenders. With one conversion the half time score was 14 to 0.

In the second period Meltham appeared to take there foot off the gas although they posted further trys through Daniel Hirsts second and one from Sam Rochford. Top Tackler and Man of the match was Sam Rochford. Meltham’s coaches Andy King and Richard Baines although pleased with the result were keen to stress to the players about playing and concentrating until the final whistle.
