Meltham All Blacks Under 8’s – Away at Moldgreen

Moldgreen  12 - Meltham 52

For the second week on the trot, Meltham achieved their half century with ease, undefeated in their last three games, it seems like there is no stopping the Under 8's from achieving their goal.  Although Moldgreen were the first to score with strong running, Christian Pestell scored carrying most of the Moldgreen side on his back from half way, converted (6-6).

Jordan Williams showed outstanding footwork darting backwards and forwards for his first (6-12) shortly followed by George  Sykes- Kenworthy going in at the corner, made sweeter when his conversion went between the sticks.

Having found the line once, George went over the whitewash again, converted by Alex ' the tank' Zatorski. Moldgreen scored just before the half (12-24) and were putting up a good fight.

Jordan Williams came out firing on all cylinders at the beginning of the second half, scoring twice in succession to get his hat-trick, George not to be out done then scored his third (12-40).  After fantastic defence and strong running Tom Hindle forced his way up the field, and through his hard work, the all blacks were rewarded with more tries from Christian Pestell

(2) and Jack Clifford.

This game was certainly an excellent team performance, and the all blacks have definitely gelled together in the last few weeks, and are not to be taken lightly. The experience of Jordan Williams, Christian Pestell, Darren Walker and Jack Clifford is definitley bringing on the new stars of George Sykes-Kenworthy, Jordan James and  Lewis Bull.  Molly Doyle, Carl Sykes and Ryan White are now showing confidence and a passion for the game.  Rounded off by a Klinesman celebratory dive in the mud, the kids are enjoying every minute.  So if this sounds exciting come and join us at Meltham Recreation Ground.

Meltham All Blacks Under 9’s – Away at Guiseley

Guiseley 16 – Meltham 10

In swampy conditions, Meltham got straight into this game with Daniel King

Scoring and then converting his own try inside three minutes. Strong defence held Guiseley out on the last tackle three times before man of the match Jacob Glover scored to make it 10 nil.

Just before half time Guiseley started to make inroads into Meltham’s defensive line and scored just before the half time.

In the second half Meltham tried very hard, but could not complete enough sets to threaten the Guiseley line. Most improved player Matthew Brearley had his best game so far this season with some good defence and strong drives. His brother was not going to be outdone by Matt and was awarded the player of the week award for a better performance in defence.

Guiseley went in front due to too many errors with two trys. Jacob Glover (top tackler) put in some awesome hits on the opposition but the boys just ran out of time.

Tries were scored by Jacob Glover and Daniel King

Conversion was scored by Daniel King.

Meltham All Blacks Under 10’s – Away at Newsome

Newsome 34 – Meltham 24

Within the opening five minutes of the match Meltham knew they had a game on their hands when they found themselves 12 points down following two converted tries from Newsome.

Recovering from this blistering start by the opposition, Meltham then proceeded to find some of the form of recent weeks and scored two converted tries of their own in the following 5 minutes to level the scores.

Despite some stout defending by Meltham particularly by the player of the week Frazer Morris, Newsome again scored two quick tries to open up an 8 point advantage, before Luke Pogson scored the first of his hat trick just before the break to give a half time score of 20 -16 to Newsome.

In the second half Meltham had the slope to contend with, but started the brightest and quickly levelled the scores with an unconverted try.

Newsome then applied the pressure and scored three unanswered tries before with virtually the last play of the game Meltham scored a further unconverted try.

Despite the defeat, Meltham can take a lot of positives from the game, and there were some very encouraging performances by a number of players.

The man of the match was awarded to Jonathan Lamb who had an excellent all round game.

Tries were scored by Luke Pogson (3), Calum Linton and Elliot Currid

Meltham All Blacks Under 12’s – Away at Littleborough

Littleborough 4 - Meltham 16

With the game being played on an extremely muddy field Meltham were always going to struggle to produce the fast flowing rugby there supporters have become accustomed to. Littleborough played the conditions much better than Meltham who constantly spilled the ball early in the tackle count. It was only resolute defence from Meltham particularly Sam Rochford and Sam Whitwam that kept the score down to a 4 points to 0 interval lead for Littleborough.

Coaches Andy King and Richard Baines must have had strong words with the Meltham players because the second half was like watching a different team.

They played with a lot more purpose and direction. It wasn't long before the opposition defence cracked under the pressure with the ever reliable George King going on one of his trademark runs to the line. The next try was the result of a rampaging run by Michael Holmes. The last try was created by Daniel Hirst who jinked his way passed 4 defenders before passing to the supporting Michael Holmes to score his second of the day. Top tackler was Sam Rochford and Man of the Match was George King.

Meltham All Blacks Under 13’s

Sheffield 20 - Meltham  4

Recent performances would suggest that this was going to be a formality for Sheffield against Meltham, but in very harsh conditions Meltham proved a very tough opposition against a strong Sheffield side.  Playing with only 12 men Meltham pinned Sheffield in there own half for the first half of the game and were unlucky to only take a 4-0 lead into the half time break, with every player contributing in defence and attack, passing the ball well under harsh conditions.  Meltham were expecting to find it hard to get out of there own half in the second half with the mud up over there ankles but showed great character by constantly breaking into the Sheffield 20 metre area and holding strong in defence. Unfortunately a player down and players carrying injuries started to take its toll and this allowed due to a tiring defence Sheffield to break late on and score 3 late unanswered tries. All players did themselves credit and gave 110%.
