Meltham All Blacks Under 8’s – Tournament

Due to the lack of a fixture Meltham played in a round robin competition with Wibsey and Newsome

Newsome was the first opposition which Meltham won 3 tries to 1

Alex 'the tank' Zatorski (player of the week) set the scene in the opening minute by an unopposed run and was very unlucky to be a yard short, however this left the door open for a stroll in for Christian Pestell.

A sustained period of Newsome pressure, nearly told but a dropped ball in a tackle resulted Meltham going the full length of the pitch and good work from George Sykes-Kenworthy and Darren Walker paved the way for Jack Clifford to score on his debut.  Meltham then returned the favour and Newsome scored their one and only try.  Meltham’s defence was tireless and second to none.  They worked as a single unit and were rewarded when Christian got his brace.  Molly Doyle and Jordan James tackling improves week on week, with good backing up from Tom Hindle and Ryan White.

The second game against Wibsey also resulted in a win to Meltham this time by one try to nil. This game again showed how much improved the Meltham squad are, Carl Sykes makes yards each time he gets the ball. The defence was outstanding and was able to defend all that Wibsey had to offer. A good Wibsey side tried really hard but Meltham held on to win, with awesome ball and all the team tackling. Jordan Williams scored the all important try. A day to make the coaches and parents really proud.

Meltham played under par against a very good defensive side which showed in the result.

Meltham were 20 points down before Man of the match Daniel King dummied his way over the line for a well deserved try which he also converted.

Jacob Glover and Oliver Szlachcic worked hard throughout the game and shared the honour of being joint top tacklers.. The most improved player of the week, Chritopher Brearley drove the ball well. Player of the week Matthew Brearley worked hard and showed great improvement, whilst Cory McDonagh and Jack Evans were always a treat in attack and were unlucky not to break through the Wibsey line.

Meltham All Blacks Under 10’s – Home to Wibsey

Meltham 40 -   Wibsey 0

The Under 10’s yet again produced a very impressive performance, and never let the visitors get into the game. The first half was all one way traffic with Wibsey rarely leaving their own half of the field.

Excellent defensive play matched by a strong attack enabled Meltham to take a comfortable 36 point lead at half time.

In the second half, Meltham were playing against the strong wind and uphill yet the Meltham defence did not allow Wibsey to capitalise on this advantage. With an excellent defensive display Meltham, stifled the visitors attack ensuring that the majority of the play was again played within the oppositions half.

A good all round team performance was the key to this victory with every player making a vital contribution, and deserving the after match praises of the coaches and spectators. A special mention should be given to Josh Kennett who played his debut and fitted in well to a very disciplined and well drilled Meltham side.

Man of the Match was awarded to Luke Pogson with Tristan Earnshaw being awarded player of the week

Tries were scored by Elliot Currid (2), Greg Thompson (2), Luke Pogson (2), Calum Linton and Lewis Evans.

Conversions were scored by Lewis Evans, Elliot Currid, Luke Pogson, and Frazer Morris.

Meltham All Blacks Under 12’s – Away at Elland

Elland 10 - Meltham 28

A great team effort saw the under 12s come out on top against a very determined and committed Elland side. New signing Patrick Diavewa scored his first try for the club with his first touch of the ball, powering his way to the line from 20 meters out. Michael Holmes just put the conversion wide of the post. Elland hit back with a converted score of there own to take the lead, but it wasn’t long before Patrick scored his second with another barnstorming run to the line. George king converted to make it 10 points to 6 at the break.

With Meltham playing down the slope in the second half it was becoming increasingly difficult for the Elland defence to contain the powerful Meltham pack. Connor Robertson scored a superb try from the scrum.

With Toby King Playing the unaccustomed role of scrum half feeding the ball and then passing to George King, he drew the cover and passed to the on rushing fullback Jack Thompson who ran for 20 meters and managed to slip a neat pass to Connor who raced in for the score.

Elland hit back with another try to make it 16 to 10. The next try was a length of the field effort from George King taking a tap on his own 20 metre line he beat the cover and showed great pace to reach the line. George also scored the final try proving unstoppable after breaking the defensive line. Man of the match for his defensive work and commitment was Sam Rochford. Worth a special mention on his debut was Keith Mgimanga who showed what a good player he is going to be with several powerful runs

Meltham All Blacks Under 13’s – Home to Moldgreen

Meltham 24 – Moldgreen 0

In hard muddy conditions Meltham earned a well deserved victory against an ever improving Moldgreen side. Although Meltham never looked like conceding any points it was found to be hard work holding on to the ball in slippery conditions. Moldgreen never gave in but some strong defensive work from Meltham only allowed Moldgreen to forage in Meltham’s 20 metre line twice.  A good all round team performance.
