Meltham All Blacks Under 13’s – Home to Farnley

Meltham 20 – Farnley 4

Meltham had to play this home fixture against Farnley away at Ovenden, due to the unplayable pitch at Meltham. Meltham started the game playing up the hill which had a severe dip at one side which Farnley made obvious that they were to try and use to their advantage, but Meltham held tight and pushed Farnley hard in defence not letting them get near the try line.

Meltham hearded Farnley to one side of the pitch and restricted their ability to get the ball out, and held tight until the fourth tackle midway through the half where a knock on was forced from the resulting scrum. Andrew Lambert dragged the Farnley defence from one side of the pitch to the other but they were unable to tackle him and he raced on to score the first try under the posts, converted by Sam Hirst.

Farnley seemed to pick up their game however the Meltham defence was only broken once and this being the result of a slip by a Meltham player allowing a strong run to the line by Farnley who were unable to convert, and the first half ended with Meltham having a 6 to 4 advantage.

The 2nd half was all one way traffic, Meltham forcing numerous errors on Farnley who only got out of there half once in the 2nd half. Despite the harsh windy conditions Meltham played some excellent rugby. A good strong run from Josh Worrall enabled him to off load to Jamie-lee Fox who did well to finish off an excellent try. Converted again by Sam Hirst. After some good work from the backs 2 more tries were scored by Josh Zatorski and Andrew Lambert. But for the conditions the score could have been a lot more, This was an excellent all round team performance, with everyone playing there part.

Match report for under 8’s 7th January 2006

Meltham All Blacks Under 8’s – No Game

Lindley Swifts 12 – Meltham 56

The Under 8s do it again, for the forth time so far this season, Meltham notched up more than 50 points against the opposition, this time against Lindley Swifts, to make it a great start to the new year.

In the first three minutes, Sykes-Kenworthy made a great tackle, followed by a three quarter of the pitch run for the first try of the match. Next to take the stage was Clifford, this time totally clearing the pitch with ease making it 12-0 to the All Blacks. This was closely followed by Williams scoring his first to make it 18-0.

Lindley made some good runs from the swifts but Walker stole the ball and headed for the try line making it 24-0. The Swifts number eight then scored the 1st try for the swifts making it 24-6. Just before half time, Sykes-Kenworthy secured the game at 30-6.

The first try of the second half game from Meltham’s  Williams, but this was followed by the Swifts number 8 scoring again with an excellent try. The Swifts number 8 then set off on a run looking for his hat trick but was stopped by Williams, the tables are then turned on Williams when the Swifts number 10 stops him just before the try line to stop Williams from scoring his  hat trick. Meltham All Blacks got straight to it with Clifford scoring again. Williams reached his hat trick with a full pitch run and a cocky little skip at the end to go with it. Zatorski was the next in the spot light with a brilliant first try. Williams finishes the match with his 4th try.

Good contributions also came from Bull, Clifford, James and Zatorski in the form of some excellent tackles and strong drives,.  Conversions were from Sykes-kenworthy, Clifford, Williams , Walker, Zatorski, Tooley and White. Man of the Match was awarded to  Williams and top tackler was Sykes- Kenworthy. Player of the week was Walker and most improved was Clifford... some good drives from bull, Doyle, James, White and Sykes.
